| What is a clothesline | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A clothesline is a length of cord strung between two points, this cord is then used to hang laundry along its length in order to dry or to be aired. The best location for an outdoor clothesline is outdoor between the house wall and a good strong tree or post, the height is usually a foot or two above head height, this will allow unrestricted passage when the line is not in use. Because wet clothes are heavy the clothes line will stretch and sag when in use so sometimes a pulley is mounted at the house end, this will enable the clothes line to be lowered to facilitate the loading of the laundry and then raised into the breeze for drying, another method is to use a prop in the center of the clothesline to raise the height.
